R & D > ARIES - ArchitectuRe of Products, dIgital mEthodologies and procedures for Validation of Innovative Star Trackers for Smallsats

ARIES proposes a wide and synergistic activity of broad-scope in Industrial Research and Experimental Development, having its focus in the star sensors ARGO and their digital validation procedures.

ARGO star sensors are intelligent digital cameras for the attitude determination of small satellites.

The project is led by EICAS Automazione S.p.A., with partners HIPPARCOS S.r.l. and MAGER S.r.l..

EICAS developed product innovation, through design and implementation of new architectures of ARGO, aiming to satisfy the most demanding requirements of the wide segment of nano and microsats (5-100 kg) by a more efficient use of resources and an enhanced robustness. More details are available in the following Deliverables:

  • D1.1 - Design architetturali (Leader: EICAS Automazione S.p.A.):
    WP1 Deliverable 1.1_Design architetturali (1.16 MB)
  • D4.2 - Risultati sperimentazione su Star Tracker (Leader: EICAS Automazione S.p.A.):
WP4 Deliverable 4.2_Risultati Sperimentazione su Star Tracker (3.78 MB)

HIPPARCOS, an innovative startup born as a vertical spin-off of EICAS in the Space industry, to manufacture and commercialize internationally the star sensors, cooperated with the RI INRIM in the definition of a methodology based on complex experimental data, difficult to acquire, aimed to modelling and simulation of critical sub-systems. More details are available in the following Deliverable:

  • D3.1 - Facility per simulazione luce solare (Leader: HIPPARCOS S.r.l.):
WP3 Deliverable 3.1_Facility simulazione luce solare (2.19 MB)

MAGER leverages its 40 years experience in advanced motion systems for the industrial sector, into the development of a test bench equipment at reduced jitter for functional verification of the star sensors, with the involvement of RI Politecnico di Torino. More details are available on their website, in the section dedicated to the ARIES project.

Further informations about the ARIES project are available on the NODES website: https://ecs-nodes.eu/1-aerospazio-e-mobilita-sostenibile/progetti-imprese/aries.

ARIES is a project funded under the Programma di Ricerca e Innovazione dell’ecosistema di innovazione “NODES - Nord-Ovest Digitale E Sostenibile” (ECS00000036) financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU funded through PNRR MUR resources.
